As of this morning, she is still refusing to issue marriage licenses at all.

Apparently, the District Court judge has ordered her and her entire staff to appear before him on Thursday to show cause why she should not be held in contempt. Judges do not like being disobeyed on this kind of thing. My guess is she is looking at a hefty fine and possibly jail time.

What I find notable about this is that it only takes three of the justices to agree to grant the stay. That means she couldn’t even get Scalia, Thomas, and Alita to agree with her.

I just read that her mother held the clerk’s job for 37 years, and then she inherited it. And to no one’s surprise her son is the deputy chief clerk. Apparently she thinks the job belongs to her family unconditionally. That is one of the disgraceful things that I hope the voters in Rowan County realize next election.
