Since 2012, the Tree House Humane Society has released 1,000 feral cats into Chicago’s streets as part of its Cats at Work program. After humanely capturing the feral felines, the rescue spays/neuters the cats and then releases them back outside to serve as environmentally friendly rodent control — and stray cat population control.

Conyers! I believe that the Roberts siblings (Eric and Julia) are from there; also, a good friend in freshman year who transferred to UGA and then ended up in trouble for running a fake ID operation. Anyway, I’ve never been there, but the way my friend described it was that it is upscale redneck.

Conversation in Smokey and the Bandit, when Bandit’s trying to get Snowman in on the Burdette job:

Bandit: We’re just gonna run over to Texarkana and pick up 400 cases of Coors, and bring it back in 28 hours.
Snowman: Whoa, I got a flash for you. That’s called bootleggin’, and that’s against the law.
Bandit: Well, who gives a turkey when the Snowman and the Bandit are runnin’ the booze? No one can stop us.
Snowman: No, hold it right there. There ain’t gonna be no more Snowman and Bandit. You understand that?
Bandit: Why?
Snowman: Well, because I’ve got to go in the morning to Conyers and pick up a load of manure.
Bandit: Shitty job.

re: #20 Backwoods_Sleuth

You know, the rest of the world needs to keep showing Americans how fucking stupid we are for accepting this disgusting system. Make fun of us, rub it in our faces.
I have friends in Wales who can’t even wrap their heads around medical causes of bankruptcy, or the concept of fundraising to keep from losing everything due to uncovered medical services. Not to mention how complicated and how many real layers of people and paperwork and just steps there are to get proper care. None of it is smooth and stress free. Which it really should be, stress free and not overly complicated. So you can, you know, focus on your health. Other countries do way better for less money and better outcomes. We pay more for medications and procedures, and none of it makes sense. It’s truly baffling to people who don’t live here. I think we’re just too mean to give a shit. Get sick, lose everything, be allowed to barely survive? Well you did something wrong, sucks to be you.

Our country is a nation based on cruelty. Everything is so fucking based on punishment and not even seeing humans as actual people, of value because of their humanity. It’s always about what you owe, til there’s nothing left.

I’m in a mood. Could you guess?

Calvinists.

OK, I’m amazed. He didn’t once do it this time, unless I missed something while it was running. I was concurrently petting and talking to my bird who was begging for attention.

Seems like the Bro comes out more in the episodes with the damn puppet, but I’m not going back to try to verify this.

And even if you HAVE insurance, health care can still be a royal bitch:

- This specialist isn’t in network
- This medicine isn’t covered
- This medicine is covered but you have to get 90 day mail order. Not convenient for you? Too damn bad.
- This procedure isn’t covered
- I don’t care if it will save your life, fuck you.
- Deductibles are going up again.
- Want to dispute that claim? Buckle up buttercup, you’re in for a ride.

Back from errands. My new passport arrived — now all I need is somewhere to go.

EC, congratulations!

Eric, hang in there. I hope all goes well for you.

Oh and by the way — Belafon, how is your son doing?

We took him to the oral surgeon and they removed that tooth, did a bone graft to start an implant. We go back on July 12th to finish that.

The other incisor is questionable. The oral surgeon put in a mini brace to try to pull it back in place. If it doesn’t work, we will have to have that one replaced.

But he’s eating. I’m sure he’s going to get tired of soup so I have to start thinking up recipes for food soft enough to grind.

“Melinda is said to have expressed unease at Bill’s relationship with Epstein since at least 2013. Her meeting with divorce lawyers in October 2019 is said to have taken place at roughly the same time as a New York Times article detailed Bill’s meetings with Epstein, which included an overnight stay at Epstein’s New York mansion.”

So you all know I’ve been out protesting Mark Driscoll, because some of his actions/behaviors are pretty cult like, rather like the cult of greed and power (that’d be Scientology). I knew he was headed that direction, but WOW, I did not even know how far down the road he’d gone.

Based on a blog article published today, his “church” is a SEWER.

What we learned today:
* Driscoll filed charges of “threatening communication” against the family of the kid who kissed Driscoll’s daughter (consensually). This is on top of calling the Scottsdale PD. In response, the M family has filed a “false imprisonment” charge for when one of Driscoll’s “pastors” locked the kid in an office and yelled at him.

* The church keeps a bunch of cards of people for security to “BE ON THE LOOKOUT”. Some are limited to certain parts of the church, one is all access, and some are not allowed on the property. I suspect my mug is up there, but it’s not in the pictures.

* Driscoll has a “loyalty scale” of 0 to 10. 0 isn’t allowed on the property. 10 is the inner circle. And you can be booted from the “inner circle” if you’re caught, for example, associating with a former worship pastor who left under less than auspicious circumstances.

* Driscoll is alleged to have spent $15K hiring Celtic Cross Security Solutions to spy on the M family. He’s also had staff tail the family.

* People in the church were told not to have anything to do with the M family. Even the father-in-law of the M father was told to get off church property last Wednesday.

There are more details at this link, including documentary evidence. However, be aware that the woman who writes here is anti-LGBTQIA, anti-women preachers and up until this morning had me blocked on Twitter, but removed the block when she figured out that I was the one person who was not an ex-church member and yet who shows up to protest.

julieroys.com

She did a pretty good job here, I will confess. At the very least, it really indicates how far gone Driscoll is gone.

Oh, and just to be clear, pretty much everyone who goes to this church and then got the left foot of fellowship are people I would not associate with in regular life, because they’re all Trumpistas and anti-vaxxers. But warning people about dangerous organizations makes strange bedfellows. Urgh.

re: #40 Eclectic Cyborg

It took me almost 8 HOURS on the phone over two days to go through all the channels and get an ER visit resolved because they wouldn’t help me when I had a honey roasted peanut stuck in my throat. The original charges were close to 7K dollars for a total of a ten hour visit to TWO facilities. The only medical attention I got was an XRay and an 8oz can of ginger ale and was told to jump around while drinking it. That’s it. I saw a doctor for less than 3 minutes. I know this because I was texting my husband when the doctor walked in and then when he walked out.

I finally got to a patient advocate who it appears has got my charges marked as paid except the fucking doctor who wants 45 dollars. Talking to the people in billing was a train wreck. The only service I received was an X-ray. And the amounts billed were insane. I am still not sure how this will shake out. The hospital has me owing nothing. My crappy insurance company has it that I paid toward my deductible, met it and now have met almost half of my out of pocket for the year. I haven’t given them a dime, so that will likely change. Maybe, who knows? It’s a clusterfuck. It doesn’t have to be. It’s that way by design, I’m convinced of that.

Since it’s an incisor, I would think that bite-sized things that are easy to chew (using molars) would work. At least that gives you more scope than soup.

The biggest convenience stores in Texas.

They make a bazillion dollars a year, but they don’t pay starvation wages. Most of their stores are on heavily travelled highways in Texas (IH’s and US’s) but just outside of major metropolitan areas.

To be clear, a $30,000 salary in somewhat rural Texas is a kinda sorta living wage. But if both of you are working at Buckie’s, you are going to be able to afford a house if you don’t have kids for a few years.

re: #38 immigrant

Yep. The system needs expanded and to be less complicated. My hubby is about to go on Medicare because of disability. Actual Medicare doesn’t cover everything and you then have to figure out what other policies you need to cover those lapses in coverage. It’s also going to cost more out of pocket each month than our current ACA policy (which isn’t fantastic, but better than most). And from what I gather they take the premiums out of your disability benefits. It’s better than nothing, but it needs a lot of improvement. Health insurance companies are still way too involved in this.
